Exhibition: Walter Bonatti - Stati di grazia. Un'avventura ai confini dell'uomo
The Bolzano section of the CAI presents: "Walter Bonatti. Stati di grazia"
To mark the 10th anniversary of Walter Bonatti's death, the Museo della Montagna in Turin presented the exhibition "Stati di grazia". This exhibition marked the culmination of the systematisation, cataloguing and digitisation of Walter Bonatti's estate - with the support of the Club Alpino Italiano, the Piedmont Region, the Fondazione CRT and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) - which the heirs of the mountaineer and explorer donated to the museum on 8 August 2016. The exhibition was curated by Roberto Mantovani and Angelo Ponta.
From his first climbing tours to his last explorations, Walter Bonatti spent his entire life exploring the world and himself with unrivalled talent and uncompromising dedication.
What moved him was the desire for adventure, but not only that: his relationship with the wilderness was characterised by a quest that was almost unconscious at first, but became clearer and more determined over the years until it became a real way of life. His relationship to the mountains, to nature and to his fellow human beings was very personal. What was universal, however, was his food for thought on how we can rediscover a "healthy" relationship with the changing planet and with modernity, recognising the need for a new way of looking at the world and ourselves as its inhabitants. The exhibition is less concerned with reconstructing the story of Walter Bonatti than with trying to show the common thread that runs from his adventures and emotions in the mountains to the whole world. To this end, it not only presents the images, objects and words that make his legacy so precious, but also "reproduces" some of the environments in which Bonatti liked to immerse himself, from the slopes of the Alps to the borders of the planet with its ice, forests and volcanoes, in an attempt to make the public emotionally part of Bonatti's world.
With the kind support of the city administration, which has made the city gallery on Dominikanerplatz available, the Bolzano section of the CAI now has the opportunity to present this impressive exhibition in Bolzano in November and December 2023 under the patronage of the City of Bolzano and the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation.
Opening on 8 November in the city gallery on Dominikanerplatz in Bolzano
Admission free.
