Concert of the Youth Choir of Val Gardena
The “Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina” was founded in 2009 with the idea of uniting all the youth choirs from Val Gardena (Youth Choir Urtijëi, Youth Choir S. Cristina and Hosianna) into one single choir in order to organize a big concert. After intense preparations, the choir finally performed in November 2009, and having been a great success, two further concerts – both of them sold out – followed.
We also had the unique opportunity to meet the “Akustika Chamber Singers” from South Africa, and we developed a lasting friendship with their conductor, Christo Burger.
In 2011, we invited Christo to our valley for a one-week workshop. It consisted of refining the songs we had already been studying with our conductor, Samuel Runggaldier. At the end of the week, we finally had the honor to perform two concerts conducted by Christo Burger.
Our conductor Samuel then chose the best pieces from our repertoire, which we performed in Riva del Garda in April 2012 at the 12th edition of the “Concorso Corale Internazionale”. We were very surprised to win a gold medal, which allowed us to face our next challenge: the “World Choir Games 2014” in Riga, Latvia.
In October 2016 the choir participated in the International Choir Festival "Canta al Mar" in Calella (Spain). The choir won a silver medal (SilverX) and a gold medal (Gold4).
In May 2018, the choir took part in the festival and competition "Laurea Mundi Budapest" in Hungary and was awarded the diploma LAUREA SUMMA CON LAUDE in two categories. In addition, Samuel Runggaldier won the "SPECIAL PRIZE for outstanding achievement as a conductor".
During the 2020 pandemic year, the choir released two "virtual choir" videos on youtube where the singers had to study and record the songs from home.
To end this long compulsory break, the choir decided to organize a series of concerts in September 2021 under the direction of Samuel Runggaldier.
While maintaining a number of restrictions, it was with great pleasure that the choir was finally able to perform live again and hold four concerts in front of “real” audiences.
To round the project off, the Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina made a trip to Sassoferrato (Italy), with a final, very emotional concert.
For every project, a live recording has been released.
