Content/Synopsis:
"When is a man a man?" sang Herbert Grönemeyer over 30 years ago with a rocky throat. The question "When is a woman a woman?" is at least as exciting.
Bastian and Helen settled that question long ago – they are a modern couple. The capable househusband and the energetic businesswoman seem to harmonise perfectly; both work at a bank.
However, the marriage proposal during the atmospheric candlelight dinner is cancelled at the last moment because Helen receives a highly remunerated executive position. The prospect of his future wife earning ten times as much as him is a major blow to Bastian's male ego. Their dream relationship would be over if it weren't for two clever mothers. Mrs. Schröder-Röder raised her Bastian in a feminist women's commune. And Helen’s mother, Konstanze, finds her highest fulfilment in shopping at the expense of her dentist husband.
As contrary as the two women's basic positions are, they clearly agree on one point: only in the role of the domesticated provider does the man find his true purpose, because "marriage is an invention of women for the subjugation of men." What could possibly go wrong if the basis for a happy cohabitation is fundamentally so simple?
