19 July 1992. Fifty-seven days after the murder of Giovanni Falcone, a car bomb exploded in Via D’Amelio, killing Judge Paolo Borsellino and the five members of his security detail. Thirty-two years on from the Mafia massacres, Davide Enia recounts the impact of Cosa Nostra on our lives as individuals and as citizens and sketches ‘an intimate and collective self-portrait’ of a community forced to live with the constant manifestation of evil. Weaving together storytelling and words, body and dialect, using the tools that the theatrical vocabulary has developed in his native Palermo, *Autoritratto* explores the neurotic relationship with Cosa Nostra and its

devastating emotional impact on everyone’s lives. A tragedy, a memorial, a civic oration, a linguistic inquiry, a process of personal and shared analysis—and thus at once intimate and collective.

Written and performed by Davide Enia.

Music composed and performed by Giulio Barocchieri.

Co-production: CSS Teatro stabile di innovazione del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa, Accademia Perduta Romagna Teatri, Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi.
