Classical:African

Their first performance could not have had a more fitting occasion: it was time to celebrate "10 Years End Of Apartheid" as Vusa Mkhaya, Ramadu, Blessings Nkomo, and Roland Guggenbichler took their first steps towards MoZuluArt and their unique fusion of classical and African music on the stage at the Wiener Radiokulturhaus.
The ensemble has always approached Mozart's music with great care. The melodic lines of the Austrian master are enriched with elements of the singing tradition from southern Africa, the characteristic male vocal harmonies, and the typical clicking sounds of the Ndebele and Xhosa languages. The group's repertoire also includes compositions by Miriam Makeba, Solomon Linda, as well as Mbube and Gospel traditionals, which MoZuluArt interprets within a European context.
After three acclaimed concerts at the Salzburg Mozart Week 2024 earlier this year, the musicians of MoZuluArt are excited for their debut at the Dolomites Festival. "Music has always managed to bring people of different backgrounds closer together" (Vusa Mkhaya).
