International Museums Day
On Sunday, 18 May 2025, the province of Bozen/Bolzano celebrates International Museum Day with more than 50 museums, collections and exhibition spaces open free of charge and a rich programme of themed events.
The theme ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Societies’ emphasises the central role of museums as cultural promoters and key players in social transformation processes. This is one of the main themes of the 27th General Conference of ICOM, scheduled to take place in Dubai in 2025, which will explore the contribution of museums to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, the active involvement of young people and the approach to the technological challenges of the future.
In fact, museums are living spaces as well as true engines of social, cultural and identity cohesion and innovation of a city.
Bolzano, in this respect, boasts nine museums that stand out for enriching city life with immersive and cultural experiences within everyone's reach. The Archaeological Museum, Mercantile Palace, Museion as well as the Dalle Nogare Foundation, the Ciné Museum, the School Museum, Roncolo Castle, the Museum of Natural Sciences and, finally, the Civic Museum (under renovation) are tangible examples of our city's identity.
