The new children’s book "The South Tyrolean Supervolcano" by author Renate Felderer.

The South Tyrolean supervolcano—one of the largest in Earth's history—has already been the focus of a dedicated research project, an exhibition (currently on display at the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park House in Siusi), and numerous events organized by the Museum of Nature. Now, a children’s book on the subject has been released.

The new children’s book "The South Tyrolean Supervolcano" by author Renate Felderer, in collaboration with paleontologist Evelyn Kustatscher and geologist Corrado Morelli, takes young explorers on a journey into the world of the Bolzano supervolcano. Alongside the protagonists Lisa and Paolo, readers delve into the history of the supervolcano through a combination of storytelling, interactive experiments, and excursion tips in South Tyrol. They learn how a supervolcano forms, what animals and plants lived in South Tyrol over 280 million years ago, and how landscapes and ecosystems changed after various volcanic eruptions. The book offers not only scientific facts and illustrations but also experiments that encourage children to actively explore the secrets of the supervolcano, such as building their own caldera or uncovering fossil traces. Additionally, it includes nine excursion tips that families can use to follow the traces of the supervolcano themselves
