Opening FESTIVAL DOLOMITES, Ingo Metzmacher conducts the GMJO

Founded in Vienna by Claudio Abbado in 1986/87, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester is considered the world's leading youth orchestra and operates under the patronage of the Council of Europe. Members are selected through annual auditions in over 25 cities across Europe from a pool of over 2500 applicants. Its high artistic level has attracted significant musicians to work with the GMJO, including conductors from Claudio Abbado to Franz Welser-Möst and soloists from Martha Argerich to Frank Peter Zimmermann. The orchestra has performed at concert halls and festivals worldwide, including the Salzburg Festival, Elbphilharmonie, Concertgebouw, and Teatro alla Scala. On its 25th anniversary, the GMJO was named ambassador for UNICEF Austria.
Whether as an opera conductor, orchestra leader, festival director, or author, Ingo Metzmacher consistently champions the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. His passion lies in making new music audible and reinterpreting familiar works in a new way.
