CHITARRA BATTENTE

The two guitarists, Francesco Loccisano and Marcello De Carolis, came together through their shared fascination for the chitarra battente, a traditional southern Italian instrument with baroque roots. The Chitarra Battente, usually translated as "strumming guitar," primarily evolved as an accompanying instrument, providing the rhythm for communal dances such as Tarantella and Pizzica. The duo "Loccisano-De Carolis" (Calabria-Basilicata) was selected to present their project "venti" at WOMEX - Worldwide Music Expo 2023, a very significant event for world music. A success that has brought the two Italian artists into the international spotlight.
