Exhibition “Mountain Life of the Past in Miniature” by Siegfried Irsara
Siegfried Irsara was born on December 21, 1927, and grew up in Antermoia in Val Badia, the eldest of seven siblings.
At the age of 21, work brought him to Val Gardena, where he would remain for the rest of his life.
He dedicated his entire life to the craft of woodworking—a great passion he also cultivated in his free time. Even well into his 90s, he loved spending time in his basement workshop, where he created all kinds of miniature models depicting life from the past—a way of life he knew intimately.
Siegfried Irsara based his models on his memories. For instance, he recreated the old mill of his hometown in 1:10 scale with meticulous detail. The stable, the hay sleigh, a horse-drawn carriage, rakes, wheelbarrows, granaries, and many other objects from rural life… everything was inspired by the fond memories of his childhood.
His collection of miniatures—over 60 objects—has been exhibited in Ortisei (2014), Vipiteno, Cadipietra in the Ahrntal Valley, and even in Palestrina near Rome.
Siegfried Irsara passed away on February 10, 2020, at the age of 92.
