The pleasure of gardening meets the culinary arts. The series of cooking classes organized by South Tyrolean women farmers and hoteliers continues, with chef Reinhard Steger, head chef and innovation expert in the field of gastronomy, and farmer Martina Maria Irsara. Their motto is: The potato - a culinary adventure.
The South Tyrolean potato is part of South Tyrolean culture. “Many typical dishes of South Tyrolean peasant cuisine are based on potatoes,” explains head chef Reinhard Steger. “Potatoes go well with different foods. The simple combination of potatoes and eggs represents a valuable dish full of vegetable and animal protein.” Potatoes are not all the same, but there are different varieties, not only in terms of shape, but also in terms of skin, flesh, texture, and of course taste. As the “ambassador of the potato,” Martina Maria Irsara has so much to tell about this super-tuber, its cultivation, storage, and the different uses of the potato, not only in cooking but also as a home remedy for stomach aches or sprains. “The potato is a very versatile product.”
