Silvano Russomanno (1924-2012) entered the police force with the rank of deputy commissioner in 1950 and started working in South Tyrol. In 1960 he headed the Brixen police station and in the same year he was offered a post in Rome at the Confidential Affairs Division, where he dealt with counter-terrorism in South Tyrol. There he particularly maintained relations with the corresponding offices of the Austrian and German police.
The Silvano Russomanno collection contains a vast documentation that is very relevant for reconstructing the history of South Tyrolean terrorism, the extent and context of the information held by the police, and also gives an idea of the political control system.
Between 2019 and 2021, the Provincial Archives financed the project for the analytical inventorying of the Silvano Russomanno fonds for the documentation on South Tyrol (1957-1970). Completed last year, the inventory will be presented on the occasion of the initiative.
