About The Renon cable railway

Thanks to its 4564 metres in length, this cable railway, officially opened on 14 July 1966, was one of the longest passengers' cable railways in the world. In 12 minutes the cable railway climbs up an incline of 950 metres from the city of Bolzano to Sop

In September 2007 the cable railway was shut down and was replaced by a modern cable car in 2009. This modernisation contributed to increasing the number of passengers transported per hour from 250 to 550. Besides passengers, the cable car can also be used for the transport of strollers and bicycles.
The Renon cable railway, alike the railway of the Val Venosta valley, and the Mendola funicular are part of the local transport system of Alto Adige.
