About AVS-Rifugio Tre Scarperi

The history of the AVS-Refuge Tre Scarperi in San Candido goes back more than 100 years. Before the First World War, Johann Kerschbaumer and Gottfried Eisendle built a simple wooden hut in the Val Campo di Dentro.

Today, Alfred Innerkofler and his family run the AVS Tre Scarperi Refuge in San Candido, at an altitude of 1.626m. The robust hut has a turbulent history behind it. It burned down only ten years after it was built, and during the 1930s it changed hands often and gradually became run down. A few years later, the AVS (the South Tyrol Alpine Club) replaced it with a more spacious building which was inaugurated in 1975, and today is popular as a place to stop and eat.
From the refuge's sunny terrace, you are welcomed by the view of the sunny peaks of the Sesto Dolomites and in the welcoming "Stube", a typical Tyrolean room, antlers and souvenir pictures decorate the salls. The food is excellent, with Alto Adige specialities such as dumplings with goulash or tempting Kaiserschmarrn (fried cakes). Guests can also spend the night in the Refuge's comfortable bedrooms or in the rustic dormitory: a unique experience that will make you feel close to nature and to its tranquillity. Around the refuge there is a network of paths and you can also go on high altitude hikes in the wild mountain world. Early in the morning, many tourists take the path up to the peaks.
