The main building of the Cathedral in Brixen and its annexes were erected in 980 and later on they were adapted to the Romanesque style. After a fire that destroyed the new Gothic-Romanesque building, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1745 in Baroque style. The two towers of the cathedral are the emblem of the town of Brixen. The frescos on the ceiling by the famous Baroque painter from the Val Pusteria valley, Paul Troger, the main altar with a representation of the death of Mary by Michelangelo Unterperger and the main altar by Theodor Benedetti make the interior of the Cathedral in Brixen a masterpiece of priceless historical and artistic value.
