Voices from the North – Icelandic Choir Samkór Kópavogs in Concert in Bolzano
As part of the 10th edition of the "Voci dal Nord" (Voices from the North) festival, the Icelandic choir Samkór Kópavogs visits Bolzano to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The concert takes place at the Chiesa Corpus Domini and is supported by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol, Italian Culture Department.
Samkór Kópavogs – "The United Choir of Kópavogur" – was founded on 18 October 1966 by singing enthusiasts from the town of Kópavogur. Among the founders was Jan Morávek, a Czech musician raised in Vienna, who established the strong musical foundations that continue to define the ensemble's sound. The mixed choir brings together singers of all ages and tackles a demanding and varied repertoire across different genres, performing at annual concerts and regularly touring both at home and abroad. Rehearsals take place weekly at the Digraneskirkja (Digranes Church) in Kópavogur – Iceland's second-largest city, part of the Reykjavík Capital Region, whose name translates as "Bay of the Little Seal."
Since 2024, the choir has been conducted by Lenká Mátéová, with Peter Máté accompanying on piano.
Admission is free.
