Theatre play in Italian - MARCO POLO E LE CITTÀ INVISIBILI
In an Orient that exists only in the mind, a man presents himself at the court of Kublai Khan, claiming to be Marco Polo. Is it really him, or is he an impostor? Khan, bored by an empire he feels slipping through his fingers, challenges him: the power of his tales will decide his fate. In an atmosphere suspended between a state interrogation and a game of seduction, Marco Polo describes cities that seem to spring from a future we are already inhabiting.
Fifty years after its publication, Italo Calvino’s *Invisible Cities* makes its debut on Italian stages in a cohesive prose adaptation. A true theatrical reinvention by Edoardo Erba, who transforms Calvino’s poetic atlas into a psychological and political thriller of burning topicality. The convergence of Erba’s writing and Giuseppe Dipasquale’s directorial vision gives rise to a fierce clash between two archetypes of our civilisation: the power that seeks to possess and catalogue (the Great Khan) and the intellect that seeks to interpret and dream (Marco Polo).
Luca Zingaretti’s performance guarantees a depth of interpretation capable of conveying the complexity of Calvino’s character, rendering him relatable, tangible and human.
Freely adapted from Italo Calvino’s "Invisible Cities".
Adaptation and dramaturgy by Edoardo Erba.
Starring Luca Zingaretti.
Directed and designed by Giuseppe Dipasquale.
Produced by MARCHE TEATRO, Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale, Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, Fondazione Teatro di Napoli - Teatro Bellini.
