by Giovanni De Martis and Antonio Viganò with Paolo Grossi, Paola Guerra, Alessandra Limetti, Mathias Dallinger, Johannes Notdurfter, Michael Untertrifaller, Maria Magdolna Johannes, Stefania Mazzilli Muratori, Edoardo Fattor directed by Antonio Viganò conception and collaboration on sets Roberto Banci costumes Sigrid Schwarzer Three hundred thousand men, women and children were murdered in Nazi Germany in the period 1939-1945. Their guilt was that of not being within the parameters that Nazism, with the complicity of psychiatrists, had arbitrarily established in the name of a strong, healthy and beautiful race. The disabled, mentally ill, asocial, schizophrenic, epileptic, deaf and dumb were eliminated and the result was not to create a new race but monsters. Monsters, because those who killed and cremated non-conforming women, children and men did not become superior beings but ogres like in children's fairy tales. The words eugenics and euthanasia burst into the scientific debate and society. The human body no longer belongs to those who inhabit it and live it, in its infinite possibilities, but to the state, in the cult of collective health and the sacrifice of the individual. The productive capacity of an individual is the yardstick of human life. In the midst of Darwinism and biological determinism, with the complicity of science, any diversity is killed because they are lives not worth living. If we talk about all this with a show, it is not only so that we do not forget, but because today the words eugenics and euthanasia return forcefully in the contemporary debate with new ethical and scientific aspects. If we talk about all this with a performance, it is because those life forms, which not more than 60 years ago were not worthy of living and reproducing, tell us about a world, a new feeling, a humanity that we are happy to have encountered. production TEATRO STABILE DI BOLZANO, TEATRO LA RIBALTA-KUNST DER VIELFALT in collaboration with THEATRAKI and LEBENSHILFE SÜDTIROL Teatro Stabile di Bolzano Tel. 0471 301 566 www.teatro-bolzano.it
