The Monopoly of Violence - Dokumentary - David Dufresne | FRA
As anger and discontent over economic injustice grows, many protests are subjected to increasingly brutal repression. Drawing on an impressive collection of amateur and citizen journalism videos taken during the "yellow waistcoats" demonstrations in France, a group of citizens from different backgrounds are invited to review and interrogate those images, and to compare their views on the social order and the legitimacy of the state's use of violence. Twenty years after the G8 in Genoa, and following the recent abuse of prisoners in the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, a lucid and urgent reflection that finds a particular echo in Italy, more topical than ever.
