St. Jakob Bell Festival
Celebrating with Sound – A Festival for Our Church Bell
Weighing 870 kilograms and with a diameter of 1.10 meters, the large bell of St. Jakob Church was cast in 1513 at the bell foundry in Tramin.
Due to a crack, the charming village district of St. Jakob has fallen silent. Only the small bell still rings at 6 a.m., at noon, and in the evening.
A few weeks ago, the damaged bell was lifted out of the tower by crane and brought to the renowned Grassmayr Bell Foundry in Innsbruck. There, it is now undergoing a complex and costly restoration.
A group of dedicated St. Jakob residents has taken it upon themselves to support the project by organizing a Bell Festival on Sunday, May 18, 2025, starting at 10:00 a.m. in the streets around the church. All proceeds will go toward the bell’s restoration.
