Philipp Hochmair & The Electric Hand of God

Schiller lives, and how!
When actor Philipp Hochmair and musician Fritz Rainer from the band ‘Die Elektrohand Gottes’ take on Friedrich Schiller's ballads, literature becomes an experiment that is neither quiet nor boring. As if in an experimental set-up, Schiller's breathless Sturm und Drang meets Fritz Rainer's world of sound. Layer by layer, Philipp Hochmair uncovers one jewel after another in Schiller's word quarry: We sense pure adventure in the ‘Ring of Polycrates’, a ballad about war victors and the fleeting nature of happiness. We tremble with the knight who, in the ballad ‘The Glove’, has to fetch it for a lady from the predator's arena. We fear for the lives of two friends whose loyalty in ‘Die Bürgschaft’ does not break even in the face of the death penalty, or bravely plunge into the sea with the ‘Taucher’, where it ‘wallet und siedet und brauset und zischt’.
‘Performing a ballad sounded like saying, can I do integral calculus or set theory with you now? But then it's suddenly an incredible pleasure and a treat for the senses. And I put myself at your service.’ (Philipp Hochmair)
