Theatre
Saeben
IT 2023, 90 min.
Director: Edith Eisenstecken and Evi Oberkofler
Documentary
Säben, high above the small town of Klausen, has always been a venerable point of entry and departure for millions of travellers from north to south and from south to north.
in the South Tyrolean Eisack Valley.
Säben is history and a religious attraction at the same time. First settled thousands of years ago, it has been inhabited and abandoned ever since. Its exposed position makes it a perpetual place of retreat and refuge. A Benedictine monastery was built on its rock in the seventeenth century and with it a religious enclave. For centuries, it has been a destination for believers, those interested in cultural history, and people longing for a quiet, rapturous place. The monastery itself is momentarily deserted: deserted and yet full of testimony to lived, religious reality.
