Peatlands are important carbon reservoirs and thus play an important role in relation to the climate crisis; their carbon content corresponds to about two thirds of the carbon found in the atmosphere; furthermore, they store large amounts of water and are home to rare animal and plant species.
Harald Zechmeister will talk about peatlands and the importance of these habitats at the lecture "Ecosystem services of peatlands" on Friday, 3 November at 6 pm at the Museum of Nature South Tyrol. Zechmeister is a university lecturer at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at the University of Vienna. He has been researching peatlands and mosses for more than 30 years and is also actively involved in peatland conservation.
Admission is free. Online booking on the museum's website under the link https://app.no-q.info/naturmuseum-sudtirol/calendar#/event/409315 is recommended.
