WEST SIDE HISTORY

The district of Bolzano Europa-Novacella is now the most densely populated area of the town. With the help of postcards from the Gaetano Sessa Collection owned by the Foundation Castles Bolzano, as well as other loans from public and private archives, this exhibition aims to trace the history of the district Europa-Novacella. Of particular interest are the pictures of the old farms that originally characterized the Bolzano basin, which were made available by their owners exclusively for the exhibition in Mariaheim. The numerous farmsteads and approximately 8 hectares of vineyards surrounding the historic Maria Heim estate were partially sacrificed to make way for the construction of the Littorio district during the Fascist era and for post-war buildings. The opening of the trade Fair in the Rome street and the construction of an ice rink, residential buildings, schools, cinemas and other facilities completed the cityscape as we know it today. A journey through images from the late 19th century to the present day, which invites us to reflect.
