Program at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology: PAST FOOD

Embark on a journey of discovery: ten museums in Bolzano are offering a colorful program that will continue until the early hours of the morning. Experience guided tours, exhibitions, concerts, games, and fun, and take a peek behind the scenes of the museums.
 
From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the museums’ offers are specially tailored to families with children.
 
Free admission to all participating museums: the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, Runkelstein Castle, the permanent exhibition at the Monument to Victory, the City Museum, Museion, the Mercantile Museum, the South Tyrol Natural History Museum, the School Museum, the Semi-Rural House, the Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation.
A shuttle bus service will be available.

What did our ancestors eat and what do we eat today? Where did hunter-gatherers get their food, and where do the groceries we buy come from?
The Neolithic Revolution marked a turning point in humankind’s development because it brought animal husbandry and agriculture to Central Europe. What would be missing from our shopping carts today without them? The answers to these questions can be found by taking a look at the interactive special exhibition “PAST FOOD. 15,000 years of nutrition”. And where there’s food, there’s also music…


Storie di pane - Bread stories
Program for children:

In the 2nd floor visitor area, cultural mediator Cecilia Munoz tells stories about bread from women from different countries. The stories were collected as part of the Merano Women's Museum project “Bread from afar - Il pane che viene da lontano”. The children can grind their own flour, knead a dough and then bake the bread at home.
Times:
Each session lasts 45 minutes.

Participants:
A maximum of 12 children aged 6 and over, accompanied by an adult. Registration at the ticket counter.

The pile dwelling bread
Program for adults:

As part of the special exhibition “Past Food - 15,000 years of nutrition”, cultural historian Alessandro Fedrigotti and the curator of the Lake Ledro Pile Dwelling Museum, Nicola Nannini, explain the research findings on the 4,000-year-old bread found during archaeological excavations at Lake Ledro, which is currently on rare loan to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology.
Times: from 16.30 to 21.30
