To the meadow terrace in Amaten

The charming hamlet of Dietenheim, on the sunny side of the Brunico valley basin, is the starting and finishing point of this lovely circular walk. The walk starts at the Dietenheim sports ground/sports zone, just above the Folklore Museum. Crossing the Dietenheim meadow, following lovely forest paths and enjoying a pleasant crossing with magnificent views, we reach the Aufhofener Kofel, a splendid vantage point on a striking rocky outcrop marked by a wooden cross. After a slight descent and then a gentle climb over a forest ridge, we reach the incomparably beautiful high-altitude meadow terrace of Amaten with its scattered farmsteads. We are first greeted by the ‘Tree of Love’, a striking maple and a place of power whose history is linked to the Amaten mountain inn. Here, and at the mountain inn right next door with its beautiful terrace, you can enjoy peace and quiet, wide-open views and a dreamlike panorama of the surrounding mountains in the heart of the Puster Valley. The descent initially follows part of the classic/usual steeper ascent route, which is otherwise the most frequently used, but then takes a gentler turn off onto a forest track back to the starting point.
