Helsinki Chamber Choir

This year, at the opening concert of Musik & Kirche on the first day of Holy Week, the Helsinki Chamber Choir and its artistic director Nils Schweckendiek will bring Liturgia Chrysostomos by Sergei Rachmaninov to Brixen Cathedral. Orthodox sacred music has the ability to emotionally engage the listener, exercising an invitation to surrender to a meditative state that often causes one to fall into a kind of trance. Slavic listeners also feel a deep, almost melancholy remembrance of their native country when they hear these works, while to a Western audience the music seems archaic and familiar at the same time.
