This concert takes us far away, to the South, to the cotton plantations of the United States, where songs accompanied African Americans during hard labor, easing their fatigue. These songs represented a Christian reinterpretation of African ritual music. Thanks to Thomas A. Dorsey and his commitment, this music was modernized using traditional expressive forms without betraying its roots. This effort led to the birth of a new genre: Gospel.
