Gli Etruschi, la questione delle origini: identità, mito e storia
Lecture by Prof. Valentino Nizzo
The question of the origins of the Etruscans has been a topic of great attraction and discussion since antiquity. During the conference, the various literary and archaeological sources on which the (presumed) problem and its (probable) solution are based will be discussed from a new historical and anthropological perspective. A journey through myth, history, anthropology, politics and ideology to retrace the stages that led the Greeks and Romans to ‘construct’ and ‘deconstruct’ the ethnic identity of the Etruscans over the course of about a millennium. An attempt will therefore be made to follow the evolution of a mobile and liquid identity over time, depending on its ideological weight, and then, through archaeological documentation and historical and anthropological reflection, to grasp the meaning of their essence and to give voice, as far as possible, to their version of the facts.
