Gianluca Iocolano - "Echter Walscher Südtiroler"

"Echter Walscher Südtiroler" is the new play by Gianluca Iocolano, the most Italic South Tyrolean author. The play speaks of the paradoxes linked to South Tyrol, a land that is always described as idyllic, of well-being, as an example of coexistence and integration, but that seems to hide several skeletons in the cupboard. The provocative title starts from the personal story of the author-actor who, as a South Tyrolean with an Italian mother tongue, has always had to jump through hoops to be recognised as an “authentic South Tyrolean” by the German community. There are no language certifications or quotes from Dolomite fairy tales that hold! A tortuous, bizarre and at times tragicomic tale balanced between Italian family roots and South Tyrolean customs and traditions.

The show interweaves different styles: narrative theatre, song theatre and a few moments of cabaret or stand-up. An ups and downs between laughter and more delicate and serious moments, without ever losing lightness. The musical carpet and accompaniment to the songs will be provided by the talented guitarist Raffaele Barberio.
