Imprinted by Light – Techniques of Cameraless Photography



This exhibition explores abstract and experimental photography created without a camera in the traditional sense. It brings together the results of a teaching project at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and offers a broader overview of cameraless photographic techniques.



The works on display come from the seminar This Is Not a Photograph!, held during the winter semester 2024/25 under the guidance of Thomas Mayfried. The seminar focused on investigating how photographic images generate meaning.



At the heart of the exhibition is a publication gathering abstract interpretations of significant events of the twentieth century. The show also includes a technical section on photograms, cyanotypes, and scannograms, presented through original prints and enlargements. An interactive station invites visitors to try the scannogram technique for themselves.
