Film in German language: Wir Erben
What does one do with a life’s work? How does one bring it to a close, and how does one pass it on? What role do the children play in this? Do they want to take it on and carry it forward, or is it more of a burden?
Twenty years ago, Simon Baumann’s parents bought a large farm in south-west France and emigrated there. Now that they are getting on in years, the question arises as to what should happen to the property. Simon Baumann travels to France and tries to find a solution together with his parents and brother.
What should become of the inheritance? Who wants what? Must the parents’ dreams also be those of their children? Where does the life predetermined by family end, and where does one’s own begin? The mother came from a working-class family, the father from a farming dynasty. Their lives tell the story of a generation that was able to flourish and that makes its descendants the stewards of their legacy ― or perhaps not.
