Discovering Morricone
The new programme by the Ensemble Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Giacomo Loprieno, presents a powerful and captivating tribute to the music of the great Italian composer Ennio Morricone. Premiering in December, this renewed show offers audiences a fresh perspective on the Maestro’s extraordinary legacy.
“Discovering Morricone” is an emotional journey through newly arranged pieces – many of them lesser-known yet deeply evocative – bringing new life and depth to the programme. More than just a concert, it is an immersive experience: a musical journey enriched by solo performances and atmospheres that guide the audience through the decades that shaped Italian and international cinema.
Alongside iconic compositions from masterpieces such as The Mission, The Legend of 1900, Once Upon a Time in the West, Cinema Paradiso, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in America and For a Few Dollars More, the programme also includes rarely performed works like The Untouchables, La Califfa, Making Love and Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion. Special attention is also given to compositions written for artists such as Dulce Pontes, Amii Stewart, Joan Baez and Mina, presented in new symphonic arrangements.
With over 500 film scores, more than 70 million records sold worldwide, and numerous international awards – including Academy Awards, Grammys, Golden Globes and a Golden Lion – Ennio Morricone is widely regarded as one of the greatest film composers of all time. This tribute reflects the Ensemble Symphony Orchestra’s desire to honour his enduring legacy.
The orchestra has collaborated with leading national and international artists including Mario Biondi, Franco Battiato, Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue. With more than 600 performances across Europe, it stands out for its versatility, confidently spanning genres from opera to film music and contemporary repertoire.
The concert will feature outstanding soloists from major Italian opera houses and symphonic institutions, including cellist Ferdinando Vietti and trumpeter Stefano Benedetti. Special guest soprano Anna Delfino, beloved by European opera audiences, will perform the iconic “Deborah’s Theme” from Once Upon a Time in America, while violinist Attila Simon, known for his work with Cirque du Soleil, will perform the solo from Love Affair.
A unique concert experience celebrating the timeless music of Ennio Morricone.
