The oldest rocks in the Dolomites date back more than 300 million years. During these hundreds of millions of years, there have been countless changes in climate and environmental conditions. Sometimes the Dolomite area was covered by a river plain, at other times it was submerged by the more or less deep sea. Gigantic volcanic eruptions have had an impact on the climate, but also on the living conditions of plants and animals, which have appeared, evolved, diversified and finally died out for various reasons. Let's take a look at the Dolomites and the exceptional chapter of life history to which they give us access!
