Concert by Music Band San Martin de Tor
The San Martino in Badia Band from Val Badia warmly invites you to a delightful concert evening in Selva di Val Gardena. The roots of the band go back to 1921, when it was founded by teacher and conductor Tone Gasser. After several interruptions, the band became a vibrant musical group, and has been a member of the South Tyrolean Band Association (VSM) since 1971. In 2021, it celebrated its 100th anniversary.
The band counts 66 members in total, including 53 musicians, six standard bearers (marketenderinnen), and seven flag bearers. It brings together several generations and stands out for its strong presence of young members and women: 34 women and 32 men, making it the band with the highest female representation in all of Val Badia.
Since 1984, the band has worn its current uniform, a variation of the traditional Puster Valley festive costume adapted to the Ladin tradition. Women wear two different costume styles, depending on whether they are musicians or standard bearers – the latter are recognizable by their black hats, silver belts, and small barrels or flower horns.
Each year, around 45 rehearsals are held – including full rehearsals, sectionals, and marching practices – which not only improve musical performance but also strengthen camaraderie. The social time after rehearsals is especially cherished by the members.
Look forward to a diverse and spirited concert full of tradition, passion, and community spirit!
