Cinema - La vita è meravigliosa
by Frank Capra - It's a Wonderful Life - USA 1961 - 131'
The story is very simple: all his life George Bailey gives up something in order to serve others. As a child he saves his brother who has fallen into a frozen pond, but gets an ear infection that makes him deaf in one ear. As a young man, he gives up his university degree to stay in his small town and keep the society founded by his father to provide homes for the poor going. And so, from one renunciation to the next, George gets by. Seized by despair, he is on the verge of committing suicide on Christmas Eve. To his rescue, thanks to his prayers and those of his friends and family, comes a guardian angel sent by God. Based on the short story The Greatest Gift, written in 1939 by Philip Van Doren Stern, it is considered one of the most inspirational, popular and beloved films of American cinema, whose viewing has become traditional during the Christmas season.
