Cineforum Bolzano - The Sea
As part of a national cinema event, the Israeli film "The Sea" by Shai Carmeli-Pollak is being screened simultaneously in more than 100 venues across Italy, including Cineforum Bolzano. The film sparked controversy in Israel and met with strong opposition from the Israeli government.
The film follows Khaled, a twelve-year-old boy living near Ramallah. The sea is just an hour away, yet seems out of reach: permits, checkpoints, restrictions. When he is turned back at a checkpoint on the day of a school trip, he decides to make the journey alone, without knowing the language or the route. His father Ribhi searches for him across towns and suburbs, knowing that any checkpoint encounter could cost him his freedom and his livelihood. The film turns a short journey into an odyssey and a simple wish into a challenge for dignity, childhood, and freedom of movement.
After the screening, a live streaming session will take place with the Global Sumud Flotilla sailing towards Gaza, featuring Francesca Albanese and other guests, in conversation with journalist Maddalena Oliva of Il Fatto Quotidiano.
Entry is reserved for Cineforum members:
