Pasquale Mirra: vibraphone & effects

Considered one of the most interesting vibraphonists on the Italian and international scene, he has collaborated with leading improvisers worldwide, including Mulatu Astatkè, Michel Portal, Shabaka Hutchings, Rob Mazurek, Moor Mother, Trilok Gurtu, William Parker, Gerald Cleaver, Damon Locks, Fred Frith, Nicole Mitchell, Hank Roberts, Ernst Rijseger, Chad Taylor, Ballaké Sissoko, Jeff Parker, Tomeka Reid, Jamie Branch, Jamie Saft, Tristan Honsinger, Butch Morris, James Brandon Lewis, and many others.

Pasquale presents his project as follows:

"Just as in Cubism we witness the fragmentation of objects and forms into multiple geometries, creating a kind of visual ‘multiplicity,’ in the performance ‘Moderately Solo,’ entitled ‘Suite from the Two-Dimensional Form,’ we encounter a series of compositions that the audience can listen to but also imagine, perceiving them from different sonic angles. My aim is to perform ‘decomposed’ compositions and pieces and to play, as a Cubist artist would, with geometry, decomposition, and simultaneous representation, in order to create a visual series that challenges the traditional perception of form and space."
