"Books for Christmas" remains the cultural highlight of the Bolzano Christmas Market. High-calibre authors are guests in Bolzano this year to present their works and meet the public.

VALERIO VARESI: "IL LABIRINTO DI GHIACCIO"
Varesi says he took his inspiration from the news, as he often does in his books: in the Austrian Alps, tunnels were found dug into a retreating glacier. His superlative writing transforms a news story into a novel full of psychological insights.
The protagonist is a man who for some obscure - at least at first - reason decides to disappear from his world of comfort and success to live like a primitive in a hostile, remote and inaccessible environment, a glacier. Not to be found is his obsession, but also his necessity. In the ice he will dig a labyrinth of tunnels, protection, a way of escape, but also a symbol of the challenge to himself, of the suffering and sacrifice that overcome the unequal forces of unforgiving Nature.
