Book launch: „Prima delle parrocchie" by Emanuele Curzel
The monograph by Emanuele Curzel (University of Trento) will be presented at Ansitz Rottenbuch in Bolzano (Via Armando Diaz 8, second floor): „Prima delle parrocchie. Comunità rurali e chiese in area trentina" (Monografie, n. s. 22), published in 2025 by the Società di Studi Trentini di Scienze Storiche, 735 pages.
Welcoming remarks will be given by Dr Karin Dalla Torre, Provincial Conservator. The session will be moderated and introduced by Dr Gustav Pfeifer of the Provincial Archive, and the author will present his work in person.
The book examines the development of parish care in the Diocese of Trento from the late Middle Ages to the twentieth century. It focuses on the role of local communities, which in this region were unusually active in reshaping ecclesiastical structures – with lasting effects on the identity of rural communities themselves.
Following an extensive introduction on the relationship between local churches and parish churches in the High Middle Ages, the volume offers a detailed catalogue documenting, parish by parish, the institutional changes from the thirteenth to the twentieth century. The area of study covers the Diocese of Trento within both its current and its historical boundaries.
