Peter Mathis was born in 1961 and lives in Hohenems, Austria.

He has made a name for himself as a photographer since 1986. His passion lies in the realms of outdoor and sports photography with a portfolio that boasts captures of skiing and snowboarding, hiking and climbing, mountain and road biking, motorsports, and landscape artistry, establishing him as one of the foremost talents in the industry. A globetrotter in pursuit of his craft, Peter Mathis has ventured to numerous corners of the world and worked for many national and international companies, with his works regularly gracing trade journals and advertising materials.

In 2009, a new chapter unfolded in his artistic journey when he delved into landscape photography, seeking to unravel the rules and nature of black-and-white imagery.

Since then, he has wholeheartedly embraced this niche as his sole focus.

Regardless of the genre, authenticity remains paramount in Peter Mathis’ work. At the core of his artistry, the photographer cherishes the significance of light and image composition. He harnesses the light as defined by his motif to skillfully craft compositions that achieve optimum visual harmony.

As a result, his images are never just reproductions of their subjects but unique creations born at the very moment and place of capture.

Awards received by the artist include:

2007 Hasselblad Master

2008 Master of European Professional Photography

Since 2012, his work has been showcased in a steadily growing array of solo and group exhibitions in cities such as Graz and Vienna in Austria, Budapest, Moscow, Prague, Berlin, Paris, Bologna, Milano and Rome as well as Basel and Zurich. Since 2014, he has become a regular exhibitor at the Schubertiade festival in Schwarzenberg, Austria.
