Since 1985, Bolzano Danza has turned the South Tyrolean capital into one of Europe's leading centres for contemporary dance. From 16 to 31 July 2026, the festival returns for its 42nd edition, directed for the second year by Anouk Aspisi and Olivier Dubois and organised by the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento. Sixteen days and sixteen nights of intense programming, with over 40 events across 17 different venues: 7 Italian premieres, 2 world premieres, 1 national preview, and the second edition of ExtraDanza, the open-air dance celebration for everyone.

The guiding theme of this edition is the Horizon — understood as an open space where memory, transformation and new possibilities meet. The history of contemporary dance is treated not as a fixed archive but as living material to be revisited and renegotiated in dialogue with the present. The programme weaves together landmark works and new creations: among the most anticipated events, the Italian premiere of Rosas danst Rosas, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's 1983 masterpiece, Badke(remix) by Palestinian company Stereo48 for laGeste, and the return of Canadian dance icon Louise Lecavalier with danses vagabondes.

Further highlights include Peeping Tom (Diptych), Leïla Ka (Maldonne), Compagnie Olivier Dubois (Les Mémoires d'une seigneure, Italian premiere), Ayelen Parolin (Irresistible Revolution, Italian premiere), Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni presenting the world premiere of Replica, choreographed by Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, and Alexander Vantournhout (Through the Grapevine Live). The programme also features work by CCN/Aterballetto, Chiara Bersani, Mohamed Toukabri, Cult of Magic, Industria Indipendente, Daniele Ninarello, Camilla Parini, Simon Le Borgne, Anna Basti, Compagnie Beaux-Champs, mk/Michele Di Stefano and Francesca Ziviani, as well as Landi's Cube, a participatory project by Margherita Landi and NOI Techpark exploring dance and mixed reality.

The festival operates as an urban, site-specific event, bringing dance out of conventional venues and into unexpected places across the city and surrounding area: Castel Mareccio, the Waltherhaus, the Dominican Cloister, Bunker H, Museion, the Cesare Battisti Civic Library, the Semirurali Park and — on the final day — the meadows of Piccolino, a hamlet of San Martino in Badia. On Saturday 18 July, the Talvera riverbanks host the second edition of ExtraDanza, a free open-air dance festival bringing together local groups, workshop participants and international artists. The festival's workshops are coordinated by the Südtiroler Kulturinstitut (SKI).

The BoDA festival hub at the Capuchin Park is open throughout the festival: a meeting point for audiences, artists and the team, with talks, artist encounters and food & drink. The closing evening on 31 July features Badke(remix) at the Teatro Comunale, followed from 10:30 pm by a DJ set from Palestinian curator and DJ ADAN on the theatre's main stage.
