ASSOCIAZIONE ARTE DEL FAR RIDERE - La’ dove c’era l’orto
The vegetable garden is a symbol of the Italian-speaking community in South Tyrol. It was present in the homes of railway workers, employees of power plants, and in the small houses of the Semirurali settlements in Bolzano. This is why this “story in images” bears this title. It retraces the stages of the arrival in South Tyrol of thousands of families from many regions of Italy, particularly from Veneto.
Using newsreels from the Istituto Luce dating back to the pre-war period, the INCOM newsreels of the 1950s, and the memories of numerous witnesses of the time, the program tells the story of the arrival of state employees in the 1920s, the first settlers and Montecatini workers in Sinigo, the birth of the Industrial Zone in Bolzano, the difficulties related to finding housing, and the wartime events, up to the founding of the Teatro Stabile of Bolzano in the 1950s and the Haydn Orchestra in 1960.
