TEMPORARY EXHIBITION/ANJA MANFREDI ATLAS. KAPITEL I
By creating a sort of mind map using analog black-and-white images, the Austrian photographer Anja Manfredi (born 1978 in Lienz, lives in Vienna) interweaves a multitude of different concepts associated with the term Atlas – inspiring research that highlights the unconventional relationships between mountain landscapes, mythology, art, and culture across space and time. This multifaceted subject matter is presented here in all its complexity: from the majestic mountain range in Northwest Africa, the titan in Greek mythology who is condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens for eternity, and the decoratively sculpted male figures that serve as important architectural supports known as atlases (their female counterparts being the caryatids and korai), to the highly symbolic gesture of carrying something. Curator: Silvia Höller Opening: Aug. 27th, 2022, 11:00 am, LUMEN
