A FEBRE (The Fever)

Manaus ist eine Industriestadt inmitten des Amazonas-Regenwaldes. Justino, ein 45-jähriger Angehöriger des indigenen Volkes der Desana, arbeitet als Wachmann im Frachthafen. Seit dem Tod seiner Frau ist seine jüngste Tochter, mit der er in einem Haus am Stadtrand lebt, seine wichtigste Bezugsperson.

Manaus è una città industriale circondata dalla foresta amazzonica. Justino, 45 anni, appartenente al popolo indigeno Desana, lavora come guardia di sicurezza al porto merci. Dopo la morte della moglie, la sua principale compagnia è la figlia minore, con la quale vive in una casa alla periferia della città.

Manaus is an industrial city surrounded by the Amazon rainforest. Justino, a 45 year-old member of the indigenous Desana people, works as a security guard at the cargo port. Since the death of his wife, his main company is his youngest daughter with whom he lives in a house on the outskirts of town.

Maya Da-Rin, 1979 BRA.

Maya DA-RIN è una regista e artista visiva. Alla Pontificia Università Cattolica ha studiato Design e Filosofia dell'Arte. Nel 2010 si è iscritta al programma di Cinema e Arti Visive di Le Fresnoy. A quel punto si era già fatta notare per i suoi documentari Margem/Margin (2007) e Terras/Lands (2009), entrambi girati nella regione amazzonica. Nel 2016 ha conseguito un master in Cinema e Storia dell'Arte presso la Sorbonne Nouvelle. I suoi film e le sue installazioni video sono stati presentati e premiati in festival cinematografici e istituzioni artistiche come Locarno, DOK Leipzig e MoMA. Il suo primo lungometraggio, A febre (2019), è stato selezionato da La Cinéfondation di Cannes e ha ottenuto una sovvenzione per lo sviluppo di sceneggiature e progetti dal Fondo Hubert Bals. A febre è stato presentato in anteprima al Concorso Internazionale di Locarno, ricevendo il Pardo per il miglior attore e il premio FIPRESCI per il miglior film, e ha poi vinto più di 40 premi in festival cinematografici di tutto il mondo.

Maya DA-RIN ist Filmemacherin und bildende Künstlerin. An der Päpstlichen Katholischen Universität studierte sie Design und Kunstphilosophie. Im Jahr 2010 schrieb sie sich für den Studiengang Film und Bildende Kunst in Le Fresnoy ein. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte sie sich bereits mit ihren Dokumentarfilmen Margem/Margin (2007) und Terras/Lands (2009), die beide im Amazonasgebiet gedreht wurden, einen Namen gemacht. Im Jahr 2016 schloss sie einen Masterstudiengang in Film- und Kunstgeschichte an der Sorbonne Nouvelle ab. Seine Filme und Videoinstallationen wurden auf Filmfestivals und in Kunstinstitutionen wie Locarno, DOK Leipzig und MoMA präsentiert und ausgezeichnet. Sein erster Spielfilm, A febre (2019), wurde von La Cinéfondation in Cannes ausgewählt und erhielt ein Stipendium für Drehbuch und Projektentwicklung vom Hubert Bals Fund. A febre wurde beim Concorso Internazionale di Locarno uraufgeführt und erhielt den Pardo für den besten Schauspieler und den FIPRESCI-Preis für den besten Film. Danach gewann er mehr als 40 Preise auf Filmfestivals in aller Welt.

Maya DA-RIN is a filmmaker and visual artist. At the Pontifical Catholic University, she studied Design and Philosophy of Art. In 2010, she enrolled in the Cinema and Visual Arts programme at Le Fresnoy. By then she had already garnered attention for her documentaries Margem/Margin(2007) and Terras/Lands(2009), both shot in the Amazon region. In 2016, she obtained a master’s degree in Cinema and Art History at Sorbonne Nouvelle. Her films and video installations have been shown and awarded at film festivals and art institutions such as Locarno, DOK Leipzig, and MoMA. Her first feature film, The Fever (2019), was selected by La Cinéfondation in Cannes and gained a Script and Project Development grant from the Hubert Bals Fund. The Fever premiered at Locarno's international competition, receiving the Leopard for Best Actor and the FIPRESCI prize for Best Film, and went on to win more than 40 awards in film festivals around the world.
