Tod von Dutzenden von Ältesten und Anführern des Dorfes
Sangradouro während der Covid-19-Pandemie und kontrastiert
damit die für die Xavante-Kultur charakteristische reiche
Symbolik von Schönheit, Wissen und spiritueller Stärke.

Sangradouro durante la pandemia di Covid 19, Divino Tserewahu
nel suo film Abdzé Wede’ö ci mostra immagini colme di bellezza,

Documenting the rituals of reverence for the dead
and the mourning for the loss of dozens of elders and leaders
of the Sangradouro village during the Covid-19 pandemic,
Divino Tserewahu shows us in his film Abdze Wede’ö the rich
imagery of beauty, knowledge and spiritual strength that
characterises the Xavante culture.

Divino Tserewahú

Nato nel 1974, uno Xavante del villaggio di Sangradouro (comune di General Carneiro, MT), Divino ha seguito il lavoro iniziato dal fratello e ha iniziato a conoscere il cinema nel 1990, quando la comunità Xavante di Sangradouro ha ricevuto la sua prima cinepresa (VHS). Da quel momento iniziarono le produzioni e le registrazioni di film, soprattutto di cerimonie per il pubblico del villaggio. Il suo primo ruolo professionale nella zona è stato quello di far parte del team del Programma Indiano, una serie televisiva realizzata dall'Università Federale del Mato Grosso tra il 1995 e il 1996. Nel 1997, Divino ha partecipato al primo incontro e workshop di formazione per registi indigeni in Brasile, organizzato da Vídeo nas Aldeias e tenutosi nel Parco Indigeno dello Xingu. Tra il 2001 e il 2002, grazie a Vídeo nas Aldeias, ha ottenuto un posto di studio presso la Scuola Internazionale di Cinema San Antonio de Los Baños a Cuba, dove ha imparato il montaggio, la sceneggiatura di documentari e fiction, l'animazione e altre tecniche. Molti dei film di Divino Tserewahú sono stati premiati in festival nazionali e internazionali. Queste opere, insieme alla sua carriera pionieristica nella cinematografia indigena, sono state oggetto di studio accademico, dando vita a tesi e dissertazioni realizzate presso diverse istituzioni brasiliane.

Der 1974 geborene Xavante aus dem Dorf Sangradouro (Gemeinde General Carneiro, MT) folgte der Arbeit seines Bruders und begann 1990, als die Xavante-Gemeinde Sangradouro ihre erste Filmkamera (VHS) erhielt, mit dem Kino zu arbeiten. Damals begannen Filmproduktionen und Aufnahmen, vor allem von Zeremonien für die Dorföffentlichkeit. Seine erste berufliche Rolle in der Region war Teil des Teams für das Indianerprogramm, eine Fernsehserie, die zwischen 1995 und 1996 an der Bundesuniversität von Mato Grosso gedreht wurde. 1997 nahm Divino am ersten Treffen und Ausbildungsworkshop für indigene Filmemacher/innen in Brasilien teil, der von Vídeo nas Aldeias organisiert wurde und im Xingu-Indigenenpark stattfand. Zwischen 2001 und 2002 erhielt er durch Vídeo nas Aldeias einen Studienplatz an der San Antonio de Los Baños International Film School in Kuba, wo er Schnitt, Drehbuchschreiben für Dokumentar- und Spielfilme, Animation und andere Techniken lernte. Mehrere von Divino Tserewahús Filmen wurden auf nationalen und internationalen Filmfestivals ausgezeichnet. Diese Werke und seine Pionierkarriere als indigener Filmemacher waren auch Gegenstand wissenschaftlicher Untersuchungen, die in Diplomarbeiten und Dissertationen an verschiedenen brasilianischen Institutionen mündeten.

Born in 1974, a Xavante from the village of Sangradouro (municipality of General Carneiro, MT), Divino followed the work started by his brother and began learning about cinema in 1990, when the Xavante community of Sangradouro received its first film camera (VHS). This is when film productions and recordings began, especially of ceremonies for the village public. His first professional role in the area was as part of the team for the Indian Programme, a TV series made at the Federal University of Mato Grosso between 1995 and 1996. In 1997, Divino took part in the first meeting and training workshop for indigenous filmmakers in Brazil, organised by Vídeo nas Aldeias and held in the Xingu Indigenous Park. Between 2001 and 2002, through Vídeo nas Aldeias, he got a place to study at the San Antonio de Los Baños International Film School in Cuba, where he learnt editing, documentary and fiction scriptwriting, animation and other techniques. Several of Divino Tserewahú's films have won awards at national and international film festivals. These works, along with his pioneering career in indigenous filmmaking, have been the subject of academic study, giving rise to theses and dissertations carried out at different Brazilian institutions.
